Parish Council Vacancies

We currently have a vacancies for 5 Parish Councillors - 3 in Devoran ward and 2 in Feock ward. We’re looking for people who want to make a positive impact in our community. This is a great opportunity to get involved, represent local residents, and help influence decisions that affect where we live and work.

These vacancies will be filled by co-option and a copy of the co-option process can be found under Policies.

There is so much to get involved in from reviewing planning applications, helping with making improvements to footpaths and recreation areas, highways issues and our wellbeing work to name but a few! You will also be required to attend the Parish Council meetings which generally take place on the first or second Monday evening of the month in Devoran, you can also join other Committees such as Planning and Access & Amenities if you wish (subject to vacancies on these Committees).
To become a Councillor you must:
• Be a British or a citizen of the Commonwealth. You may also be eligible as a citizen of the European Union, however the criteria has changed now that the UK has left the European Union. Please check on the gov.uk website for advice about EU citizens’ voting and candidacy rights in local elections; and be at least 18 years old.
• be an elector of the parish; or
• in the past 12 months have occupied (as owner or tenant) land or other premises in the parish; or
• work in the parish (as your principal or only place of work); or live within three miles of the parish boundary.
Please note, being a Parish Councillor is a voluntary unpaid position and we would recommend people who are interested attend a Parish Council or Committee meeting before applying to gain an understanding of the issues you will be involved with. Training will be provided and paid for by the Parish Council to enable you to carry out your Councillor role.
If you are interested in becoming a Parish Councillor, please send an email or letter of application explaining why you would like to join the Parish Council, what you can bring to the Council and any previous relevant experience, to the Parish Clerk by the Monday before the next Parish Council meeting (meeting dates available here).

No prior experience is needed – just enthusiasm, commitment, a desire to help your community and able to attend one Parish Council meeting a month (usually held on the second Monday of the month at 6pm in Devoran)
